Today, I commenced the first CAATs test for the Cambodian financial services company, which was focused on the completeness of data transfer from the sub-system to the main system. The main system they use is the Optimal 9 core banking system, while the sub-system is an internal system created by the company, known as the JARVIS system. All the transactions performed by the clients using their application are recorded on the JARVIS system and transferred to the main system, which is responsible for calculating and generating financial data, such as profit and loss.
The client informed me that for certain transactions, the staff enters the data directly into the Optimal 9 system. Therefore, for my first test, I focused solely on transactions generated from the sub-system.
To perform the test, the client provided me with raw data for both sub and main systems. However, the data were extensive, and covering all of them in the test would be time-consuming. Therefore, my manager instructed me to sample the data and focus mainly on data nearing the end of the month.
I proceeded with the test by comparing the recorded data on both systems. I used a formula on my working paper to identify the missing data on the other system, and any variances were flagged and documented.
Main things that have learnt:
To perform completeness test on the transfer of data from subsystem to the main system for business involving complex financial business.
