Today, my focus is on completing the payroll CAATs test that my senior assigned to me for our company. Since we have a large number of staff, it will require extra time to complete the test thoroughly. After redoing the test several times, I realized that some of the variances were due to my careless mistakes during the data cleaning process. Although rerunning the test multiple times was time-consuming, I learned from this experience the importance of carefully reviewing the document before moving to the next step.
My senior emphasized the importance of cross-checking variances after completing the test to identify any careless mistakes we may have made.
Later that day, I received the general ledgers from the client and was shocked to discover that they were in PDF format, with each file covering the entire financial year and containing thousands of pages. This was my first time encountering general ledgers with such a large number of pages.
Main things that have learnt:
To learn about the importance of cross-checking for the variances found from the performed CAATs.
